Veterans Administration Medical Center, Radio Active Waste Processing Facility, LaJolla, CA
OWEN provided complete architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, geotechnical engineering services on this new construction project. OWEN was responsible for the complete production of plans and specifications for the construction of a radioactive waste processing facility to support the Veterans Administration Hospital in La Jolla, California. The facility processes approximately 200 barrels of non-liquid waste, 1,200 gallons of liquid waste, and 500 bags of dry waste per year. The new facility provides spaces for collecting, sorting, compacting and sorting liquid, dry and animal low-level radioactive waste. OWEN provided PS&E, contract administration, claims analysis and construction support services. This indefinite quantity master plan contract for a new Veterans Administration medical building included architecture, structural engineering, utility mapping services, fire protection, plumbing system, seismic retrofit and HVAC systems. This project also required the design of sidewalks, hazardous waste storage systems and mechanical systems such as elevators and lighting. This facility is in full compliance with current fire, life and safety codes. |
